Normalize telling people that you love them

On being "lazy" about software freedom:

Everyone lives a full life. Not everyone gets the same opportunity to pick what fills their life, though. People are busy. They have things they like to do or find easy, & things that are unpleasant or difficult.

People whose life is filled differently than yours, who have different priorities than yours, aren't any more lazy than you are lazy for not picking a more compassionate way to talk about the challenges standing in the way of software freedom.

It's only a marathon if you run naked from Marathon to Athens without stopping, otherwise it's just sparkling long-distance running.

Hey fedi, I have some videos I’d like to upload to a peertube instance and I need some help selecting an instance.

It’s of my grandparents and I working on craft projects as part of therapy, enrichment, and systems focused healing. What’s a good instance for that kind of content?

job search for Linux sysadmin, boost+ :boost_ok:

Dear friends,

I’m a Brazilian immigrant and trans woman, looking for a new job in Germany. Been doing Linux sysadmin’ing since 2001. I have experience also with programming, tech writing and translation.

The job needs to be registered locally in Germany. I’m living in the country since 2017, and I can commute in the NRW area or work remotely.

I’m fluent in English, know Japanese, and my German is currently at B2.

For CV and personal info DM me.

Thanks everybody for boosts and references!

Occasional request to spell out your content warnings in full. I don't always need them, but when I'm out of spoons, figuring out what 'ment', 'mh', 'ukpol' etc. takes up energy.

i think software can do good but i wish more developers had labor consciousness

❌ Linux
❌ GNU/Linux
❌ GNU+Linux
✅ Linux-based operating system using glibc and GNU coreutils + dozen other projects

this post is a thank you for all the fat girls who collaborated to help me not to hate myself

It’s really different from the other pride flags and I’m not sure I get all the symbolism but I like it

Hmm. I'm not craving coffee in the same way. So these meds are definitely doing something.

First day of meds! I've been shocked at how easy it was to get here once I finally asked for help honestly. I'm excited and very nervous.

And unfortunately this medication needs about two weeks before I can fully evaluate it's effectiveness 😅

Is there an open source alternative to a #survey/polling #website such as SurveyMonkey? Can be self hosted.

"looking forward to the new emergent free software advocacy org" was a bad take; vm brasseur has it right:

the fsf is good, the board (including rms) needs to step down

Thread 🧵 of 501(c)(3) public charities you can support instead of the FSF, if you care about its mission:

So I had an unplanned coming out at work today. A student who wasn’t in my classroom came up to me at recess and asked if I was a he or a she (not in a rude tone at all). I told him I’m a they, which got a good chuckle out of him. He asked again later when we were near another of the teachers. And that prompted a short convo with her about pronouns. I surprised myself with being okay being honest about it.

Well I guess I never really posted in so here goes!

I’m dorian, I’m an educator and caregiver, and I have a massive love for free software and the potential it holds to help us build resilient local communities building their own digital infrastructure.

One of my main hobbies is playing around with sysadmin stuff. I run this instance here and host my own blog over at
